Tagline: On his way to finding a legend...he will become one.
Director Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen) makes his animation debut with this fantasy adventure based on the beloved books by Kathryn Lasky. Young owl Soren marvels at his father's epic stories of the Guardians of Ga'Hoole, mythic winged warriors who fought a
great battle to save all owl kind from the evil Pure Ones. When he and brother Kludd fall from their treetop home and into the talons of the Pure Ones, it's up to Soren to make a daring escape with the help of other brave owls. Together they seek the
Great Tree, home of the Guardians - the only hope of defeating the Pure Ones and saving the owl kingdoms. The stellar voice cast includes Abbie Cornish, Miriam Margolyes, Helen Mirren, Sam Neill, Geoffrey Rush, Jim Sturgess and Hugo Weaving.
Storyline: Soren, a young barn owl, is kidnapped by owls of St. Aggie's, ostensibly an orphanage, where owlets are brainwashed into becoming soldiers. He and his new friends escape to the island of Ga'Hoole, to assist its noble, wise owls who fight
the army being created by the wicked rulers of St. Aggie's. Written by Anonymous

it is really dark. Snyder stays in lieu of his previous films with his infamous slow motion effect. The visual effects are absolutely dazzling, it nearly looks real down to the feathers. it is in fact one of the most biggest visual masterpiece ever,
extraordinary splendid special effects. In short, it's one of the best animated films of the year. It's the perfect movie to bring your family (and maybe friends as well) and enjoy. Have no worries, sit back, and enjoy the ride. And seeing it in 3D is a
plus, no matter what anyone else says. The ending also hints at a sequel. Hope that's a possibility as Warner Bros. has a potential new family franchise at their hands. And I hope Snyder returns as well. Story-wise, it's obviously unoriginal, but it is
told very well. This is due to the animation, which is absolutely, spectacularly stunning. There is a great amount of detail in the film, especially on the owls, you can see every feather, every movement they make, every gust of wind that brushes that
pass their feathers. Director Zack Snyder (finally using his talents for the kids) puts his signature style to terrific use here, using the "ramping" (frantic slowing down and speeding up repeatedly) technique from his "300" and "Watchmen" for the action
sequences, that will make one forget he is watching an animated film, let alone a movie that has talking owls. A splendid adventure sure to thrill children and fantasy buffs, while leaving everyone else passably entertained. Legend of the Guardians' dark
tone and dazzling visuals are to be admired, even if they're ultimately let down by a story that never lives up to its full potential. I was very impressed with the film of a technical level. I don't why critics are complaining that it's incoherent and
hard to follow. I had completely zero trouble following the narrative and the characters. The kids in the theater seemed to have no trouble either. I've heard critics say that you can't tell the characters apart and again that's rubbish. They are all very
unique in how the talk, how they move, and how they look. No trouble at all. Also it's not that violent. There are deaths but never any blood. one of the rare best films, awesome, superb.
Summary: Most dazzling visuals ever, superb. loved it.

actually lived up to expectations, sure some parts were a bit forced but overall the film is fantastic. The film had a great message in it and a very frighting villain, The Pure Ones remind me of The Nazis and Ku Klux Klan. The animation and fight
choreography was very impressive and I'm very happy they got actors like Hellen Mirren and Geoffry Rush to voice in the film! Ultimately you will come out of the film and feel the money has been well spent!
Summary: What a Hoot!
[CSW] -5- The visual effects are absolutely amazing; it nearly looks real down to the feathers. This animated fantasy feature (as good as any Pixar) from director Zack Snyder has the epic sweep and feel of "Lord of the Rings". Perhaps it might be a little
scary for children under seven but should leave "tween" audiences and most adults spellbound from beginning to end. The story was never dull for a moment. Its tempo kept gaining speed to the end hurling me to the edge of my seat. The 3D version is a must
have for my collection.

The Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole contains a fair assortment of bonus content, all of it available only on the 2D disc with the exception of the 3D version of the Looney Tunes cartoon Fur of Flying (1080p 3D, 3:05)
which appears on both discs.
• True Guardians of the Earth (1080p, 15:09): Rico Rodríguez from Modern Family and Digger from The Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole explore the lives, biology, and secrets of owls who call various lands in this world home. The
hosts also interview scientists and environmentalists who encourage viewers to become more aware of the dangers facing owls around the world.
• Maximum "Kid" Mode -- Explore the World of Ga'Hoole: Soren hosts this kid-friendly picture-in-picture track that guides viewers through the making of the movie while sharing fun facts about owls in the real world. Specific to the movie, the
piece features conceptual drawings; storyboards; artwork galleries; the film in various stages, or "passes," of animation; and much more. Cast and crew also appear form time to time to discuss the characters, themes, and the making of the movie. The cast
speaks on the challenges of giving life to the characters through vocal performances while sound designers discuss the process of creating every sound effect from scratch. Though aimed towards younger audiences, this is actually a fine primer on how
digital movies are made.
• Match the Owl Treats (1080p): Players are challenged to match up pictures of owl food in this Blu-ray rendition of the classic game of Memory.
• Legend of the Guardians: Armor Up With Soren & Eglantine (1080p): Users may clothe the characters in several whacky outfits.
• Legend of the Guardians: Rise of the Guardians (1080p, 2:12): Noctus shares the story he tells his family that recalls owl culture and history, setting the tone for the story that unfolds in the film.
• Looney Tunes Fur of Flying (1080p, 3:04). A short Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner adventure. Also included in 3D on the 3D disc.
• Artwork Galleries (1080p): Soren & Friends, The Locations, Villains of St. Aegolius, and The Guardians.
• Music Video (1080p, 3:40): "To the Sky" by Owl City.
• Digital Copy/DVD Disc. The digital copy disc, sampled on an iPhone 4, fares well enough but it's obvioulsy nowhere near the quality of the movie. Banding is far more readily evident here than on the Blu-ray transfer, but blocking isn't much
cause for concern. Details are strong but colors are a bit faded. On the audio side, the track exhibits dialogue that's suitably crisp and music and sound effects that are clear but absent power and body.
• 2D Blu-ray Disc.
• BD-Live. |
